is from Denver. This makes me proud. He and I started together, frequented The Lion’s Lair and The Squire and Comedy Works New Talent Night during the mid-2000’s, all the rooms that I go on and on about on this podcast like some sort of old-man drowning in his own nostalgia at the ripe age of 34. But Ben was there right at the start. And he was always one to watch. And watch I did. I was fascinated by Kronberg and I guess in a lot of ways, I still am. The guy does things on stage that nobody else does: sometimes that’s amazing, sometimes it’s incredibly discomforting, but it’s always unique. And it’s usually pretty goddamn hilarious.
Kronberg was the first to kind of blow up out of our little Denver crew. He left the Mile High City for Los Angeles, then New York, the reverse of the typical comedy route, but all the while he came back through Denver, staying for long spells, sucking us all into the orbit of Planet Kronberg. Just like his comedy, sometimes this was a transcendentally funny experience, sometimes it ended with Kronberg and I screaming at each other. Sometimes I crashed in that orbit. We’ve had our fair shares of bumps in the road, but in a way, I think that’s because Ben and I have always just been completely honest with one another, for better or for worse. How many people can you truly say that about? Plus most of it was just young comic, ego bullshit. I think it’s safe to say we’ve both matured immensely, grown more comfortable in our comedy skin, and now we’re just two old friends who are rooting for each other. I’m a Kronberg fan as well as his friend. It was a delight to sit down with Ben at My Dining Room Table and talk about the good old days, the times we clashed, the times we laughed our asses off, the times we shared the stage. He was and is an integral part of the Denver comedy experience. I’m glad he still calls the Queen City of the Plains home sometimes.
Ben wanted you to watch this great video by Radiohead. It rules.
